Eight Petals

"My Great-Aunt Meta was, in all senses of the word, my grandmother. Her sister, my grandmother, had died before my sister and I were born and having had no children of her own, we were children and grandchildren combined. We adored her.

When she died, my sister and I inherited the diamond brooch that had belonged to her mother, my great grandmother. For years it lived in the 'bank box', my sister and I not knowing how to settle the half ownership and  wanting to keep the artistry of the brooch.

We decided to share the 'pin', alternating years and swapping when we gathered at my Mother’s in Mississippi for Christmas. We wore it as a pendant on an omega chain and both of us would find times to wear it when it was 'our year'. This lasted many years until my mother died and we were no longer getting together for the Holidays. So back to the bank box it went.

My sister and I each have 2 daughters living far apart and it wasn’t feasible for them to swap the pin every 4 years. I met with Stacey for ideas on how we could solve the dilemma, passing it down for future generations while maintaining as much of the delicate design as possible.

The brooch was a flower design with eight petals encrusted with diamonds. Stacey suggested creating pendants from the 4 larger petals for each of the 'great, great, granddaughters' and the smaller petals made into 2 pairs of drop earrings for my sister and myself. It was a wonderful solution.

Thank you, Stacey! Seeing the generations, each wearing their pieces of the 'piece' at a family gathering was so special. You and your team were wonderful to work with, taking such care with something that meant so much to us."
